How it works

From a phone call to a signed contract.

Three steps. No kitchen-table night shift, no spreadsheets, no paperwork bottleneck between you and the next job.

Step 01

Talk through the job

Call your ProJobCalc number from the truck or tap voice on your phone. Walk through scope, hours, and materials out loud. Sage transcribes it, applies your default rates and burden, and lines up the math.

About 60 seconds

Step 02

Review the proposal

A branded PDF is waiting on your dashboard — letterhead, scope, line items, overhead, target margin, and terms. Adjust a line, swap a unit, raise the margin one point. The number recalculates instantly.

Margin baked in

Step 03

Send. Sign. Get paid.

One click sends a tracked link to your client. They open it on their phone, sign with a finger, and pay the deposit via Stripe. The proposal moves to your pipeline and your win-loss data updates automatically.

The math nobody hands you

The same kitchen remodel, priced two ways.

A thirty-two-hour job. On the left, napkin math the way most contractors run it. On the right, the same job once overhead and profit are baked in by ProJobCalc.

Before

Napkin math · most bids

  • Labor (32 hrs × $55/hr)$1,760
  • Materials$4,200
  • Disposal & rentals$380
  • Overhead— forgot
  • Profit margin— buried in labor
Quoted price$6,340

Wins the bid. Loses $1,400 of overhead and zero margin. Thirty-two hours to break even.

After

ProJobCalc · margin baked in

  • Labor (32 hrs × $55/hr)$1,760
  • Materials$4,200
  • Disposal & rentals$380
  • Overhead burden (18%)$1,140
  • Net margin (22%)$2,140
Quoted price$9,620

+$3,280 on the same job. Same crew, same hours, same materials. The math just shows up on the proposal.

Eight jobs a month at this delta pays for the Pro tier 1,300× over.

Built for the trades

Three tools that pay for themselves on the first bid.

Profit-margin calculator

Set your target margin once. Every estimate compounds the math automatically — labor burden, materials, overhead, and profit — so the number you quote is the number you keep.

Branded PDF proposals

One click turns an estimate into a clean, branded document with your letterhead, terms, and a signature block your client can accept on their phone.

Win-loss tracking

See your real close rate by trade, by job size, by season. Stop guessing which bids are worth chasing — let twelve months of your own data tell you.

Plus per-trade calculators for roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, and flooring — at /tools. Free, no signup required.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes — two clicks from your dashboard. Paid access continues through the end of the billing period, then your account drops to Free. Saved estimates and clients stay intact.

What's the 14-day guarantee?

Try Pro. If anything about the math, the proposal output, or the workflow doesn't work for your shop, email support@projobcalc.com within 14 days and we refund the month, no questions.

Are there per-proposal fees?

No. Pro is $19/month flat — unlimited proposals, unlimited estimates, unlimited PDF exports. No seat tax for your apprentice, no extra fee for the AI bid generator.

Can I bring my own brand?

Frequently asked

The questions most shops ask.

Quick answers about the calculators, the proposal flow, and how the pricing math actually works in practice.

What is ProJobCalc?
ProJobCalc is bid-proposal software and a suite of free job estimators built for independent contractors. Punch in your costs and target margin, and ProJobCalc generates a clean client-ready proposal — with overhead, labor burden, and profit baked in — in about 60 seconds.
Are the calculators really free?
Yes. The 18+ calculators under /tools (labor burden, markup vs. margin, contractor hourly rate, retainage impact, change-order pricing, and more) are free to use with no signup required. The paid Pro tier ($19/mo) adds saved proposals, branded PDF export, the AI-assisted bid builder, and team features.
How does ProJobCalc help me price jobs more accurately?
Most contractors price off the wage rate, not the burdened cost — a $25/hr employee usually costs $34-$40/hr once you load in payroll taxes, workers' comp, GL insurance, PTO, and non-billable time. ProJobCalc's labor-burden, markup-vs-margin, and contractor-hourly-rate calculators force the real numbers into every quote so you stop leaving margin on the table.
Does ProJobCalc work for residential and commercial trades?
Both. The calculators ship with trade presets for roofing, framing, finish carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. The proposal builder handles single-residence remodels through commercial multi-phase jobs — line-item structure scales with the bid.
Can I export proposals as PDF or send them to clients?
Yes — Pro accounts can export branded PDF proposals with their logo and signature line, and send proposals to clients via email with a tracked accept-online link. Free accounts can preview the proposal layout but can't export or send.
What's the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is added to cost (cost × markup% = profit added). Margin is taken from the sale price (sale × margin% = profit). A 30% markup on a $100 cost yields a $130 sale — but that's only a 23% margin. Most contractors confuse the two and underprice; the markup-vs-margin calculator at /tools/markup-vs-margin shows the conversion explicitly.
